October 1 - 2, 2022 - Dordogne, France

MASCULAR is pleased to offer a MASTER CLASS in male nude and portrait photography. This two day-event is for experienced adult photographers interested in exploring, developing or refreshing their skills in fine art male nude and portrait photography.

Hosted by renowned photographer and founder of MASCULAR Studio and MASCULAR Magazine, Vincent Keith, this in-person two-day seminar will cover key aspects of the art of photographing men. Topics will include lighting, composition, posing, and settings. Vincent will also cover post processing and image selection.

This interactive seminar will encourage participation, discussion and critique. Mornings will cover theory and live tutorials, afternoon’s will be for shooting, and evenings will be for discussion and critique.

Studio

Photographing men in a studio setting gives you ultimate control over light and composition. There are no constraints. However, unlimited options present the photographer will an endless array of choices, all of which need to be spot on in order to achieve the desired look and feel. Many photographers struggle with Studio work precisely because it requires a completely different kind of inspiration and approach to other photography.

In this Master Class we will discuss, explore and refine studio technique. The objective is to help you define a style and give you the tools and skills in order to be able to consistently deliver your vision.

Boudoire/Interior Location

Photographing a man in an interior space, be it a bedroom or lounge, a car or dungeon explores the male form within defined boundaries. These spaces have a character all their own, and for that reason, location work generally requires a photographer to work with two distinct and strong elements in their compositions. Sometimes subtle, and sometimes bold, interiors add texture, mood and story to an image. However, if improperly used, they are distractions and take away from the main object of the photo.

In this Master Class we will explore how best to make use of interiors within male nude photography, and in that way, develop the language for narrative photography.

Outdoor

Photographing the male nude in natural surroundings dates back to the beginning of photography. The harmony of the nude male form in nature is a beautiful. However, this is one of the more challenging locations to get right. Not only are there two subjects, the model and his surroundings, but there are two forces involved in making the composition - the photographer and mother nature.

In this Master Class we will develop compositional skills and techniques while responding to the lighting conditions presented by the sun. In doing so, we will explore how to elevate outdoor photography from snaps to art.

Take your photography to the next level.
Master the skills and techniques you need in order to achieve your goals as an artist.

What to Bring and How to Prepare

Please bring camera gear and tripod. If you have a backup camera, bring that too. You will be responsible for your own gear, so please ensure you have a high quality camera bag or case. You are welcome to use any type of camera, though we would expect you to bring professional or pro-sumer level equipment. Though some lighting equipment will be provided, you are welcome to bring on-camera flash and speed lights. To use the equipment on site, your camera will require a hot-shoe.

Please bring plenty of storage for the images you shoot, and preferably, a way to back up those files.

We recommend that you test and clean all of your equipment before you come. There are no camera shops or sensor cleaning services nearby.

Prepare for the Master Class by giving some thought to the areas and techniques you wold like to develop. Perhaps its composition, or lighting or maybe how best to work with a model to achieve the best results. Come to the Master Class with these objectives in mind, and focus on these areas during the two days. Having said that, be open to other opportunities for development. As there will only be 12 participants, there will be plenty of time for 1-on-1 discussion and support.
